UK Games need a break
Because if the lacking support from the government, the UK game industry is lacking commitment as many publishers are looking at their foreign development houses to offer new jobs where favourable tax breaks are offered.
In the current economic crisis the UK government needs to offer game developers the tax breaks they need to compete with countries such as Canada and France where the industry is encouraged to grow.
Ignorance of this recession proof industry is leading to companies moving abroad in search of better profits with existing companies losing staff as Foreign companies snipe staff with higher wages and better working environments.
Without the necessary injection from the government, gaming gurus will continue to leave the UK in their swarms as subsidized employers swoop in with better job offers.
Tiga, the UK trading body for games developers in the UK was shocked at the governments ignorance to this important industry as the “Digital Britain” report didn’t even mention support for the gaming industry.
