Windows 7
I’ve been running Windows 7 on my laptop the last few weeks and it’s somehow made my battery last an extra hour! So far I’m pretty impressed, it has me thinking about switching back to PC since I’m sitting pretty firmly in the Mac camp at the moment.
The coolest feature has got to be the window management stuff, Aero Peek is so awesome it makes checking out stuff in other apps a breeze without having to switch. I think it’s a pretty elegant solution to a chaotic windowing system that’s been so prevalent in Windows since 95.
Even paint got an upgrade, I couldn’t believe it. I don’t use it any more because it had sunk into obscurity in recent carnations of Windows. Editing bitmaps is so old hat, it’s all vectors for me nowadays but the new painting features (translucent brushes) in combination with multi-touch support makes it so painstakingly obvious we’re all headed towards tablet laptop models.
